A Few Things About Keramiko.

HOPE FOR YOUNG FAMILIES.

Keramiko is committed to providing hope, encouragement, and support for pregnant and parenting youth in Calgary. Our goal is to provide mentorship, to help bridge some gaps in programming already offered in Calgary, and to offer hope and guidance in the lives of young families.

When surveyed, the city’s already available programming stated that two things are lacking in Calgary for young parents; court support and mentorship. Our hearts, are to come alongside young families and help encourage, support and get young parents plugged into a healthy community of friendships and also help in some of those tangible needs in any way we can. One of our ultimate goals would be to have the young parents in our program, later come to mentor other young parents - because they know it best when it comes to what life is like as a young person.

Keramiko is here to help build community amongst teen moms so that life and learning, can be done together versus alone.

What does Keramiko mean?

Keramiko is a Greek word meaning "made of clay" and the name symbolizes that we believe we are all made of the Potter's clay, formed in His image. This goes for the parents, the children, the mentors and the staff who run this program - we are all equal in His eyes and as a community, being formed into something beautiful - together.

If you're a young parent, or young mom to be... sign up here and let's get you plugged into a community of friends and support! We'd be honoured to have you!

Calling all mentors!

We are looking for volunteers to come alongside young parents and their children, or young expectant moms as they go through their pregnancy. Our goal is to help support, encourage and do this piece of life together. We aim to connect one on one with young parents and to also provide fun, interactive group gatherings as well as tangible training. We are here to help parents journey through parenthood, and young pregnant women, best care for themselves and their unborn child.

Here's what we are looking for in a Keramiko mentor:

Minimum 1 year commitment.

6 - 8 hours per month (this may vary when it comes to group events).

Meet with your young parents at least every second week and call to connect with them on the off weeks where you're not able to meet in person. Ideally we are hoping to have mentors who are available to help support our young, or expectant moms, along the way not only as a mentor, but as a supportive friend.

Lastly, we'd like mentors to participate with 1 - 2 larger group meetings per month.

Donations

Keramiko welcomes donations of new and gently used baby or toddler supplies. We cannot take everything offered, but we are thankful for your kindness and generosity. Items that we are always in need of are diapers of all sizes, baby wipes, and grocery gift cards.
